Great Head is Pure Romance's flavored oral gel. It's a non-numbing formula that lightly coats the throat so oral play feels smoother and more comfortable, and the Pink Strawberry flavor tastes like strawberries dipped in warm sugar rather than cough syrup. You use a fingertip-sized amount, apply it to your mouth, swallow, and go. $25 for 3 fl. oz., and a bottle lasts a long time because a little is enough.
Strawberry or Blueberry Lemonade? Same gel, two flavors. Pink Strawberry is the sweeter, dessert-like one reviewed here. Blueberry Lemonade is brighter and more tart. Pick by taste — everything else is identical.
Most "oral" products are one of two things: a flavored lube with a new label, or a numbing spray that makes your whole mouth go dead. Great Head is neither, and that's why I've kept it in the shop. Here's what it does, how it tastes, and where the marketing oversells.
What is Great Head?
Great Head is an oral gel made by Pure Romance in a 3 fl. oz. (90 ml) bottle. The base is water and algin — a seaweed-derived thickener — with glycerin and propanediol for slip, sucralose for sweetness, and strawberry flavor. There's no benzocaine, no lidocaine, no menthol. Nothing in it numbs.
What did I love?
It doesn't numb. This is the whole reason to pick it over a "deep throat" spray. Numbing agents kill sensation for both people and make it harder to tell if something hurts. Great Head coats instead — the algin gives a light, slippery film in the throat that makes things feel smoother without switching off nerves.
The flavor is actually good. Sweet strawberry with a warm-sugar finish. It doesn't taste chemical and it doesn't linger for an hour.
A little goes a long way. A fingertip amount is a dose. Three ounces is dozens of uses.
Two ways to apply. To the mouth and swallow, or a small amount on the tip of the shaft. Both work; the first is the one most people prefer.
It lowers the awkwardness. For couples who are new to oral or self-conscious about it, a product that makes it taste like dessert takes the edge off. That's not a small thing.
What should you know before buying?
It helps comfort; it doesn't erase a gag reflex. The coating makes things smoother and the sweetness distracts, and together that does help. But if you're expecting a numbing-level effect, that's not what this is — and that's by design.
Not a lubricant. It's thicker than lube and built for the mouth. For flavored lube that works everywhere, see Aqua flavored water-based lubes.
Sweetened with sucralose. If you avoid artificial sweeteners, this isn't for you.
How do you use Great Head?
Place a small amount on your fingertip, apply it to your mouth, and swallow. Or apply a small amount to the tip of the shaft. Store at room temperature. Do not use if the quality seal is broken or if you have a known allergy to any ingredient; discontinue if irritation occurs.
How does Great Head compare to other oral gels?
These are the products that actually do the same job — gels made for the mouth, for oral play. Flavored lubes are a different category (see above).
| Product | Price | Size | Sensation | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Great Head — Pink Strawberry | $25 | 3 oz | Non-numbing, throat-coating | Smoother, sweeter oral play; best value per use |
| Great Head — Blueberry Lemonade | $25 | 3 oz | Non-numbing, throat-coating | Same gel, tarter flavor |
| JO Blo Oral Pleasure Gel | $22 | 1 oz | Non-numbing, cooling | A cooling tingle for the receiving partner; sugar-free |
| Smack Tarts Oral Delight Gel | $24 | 4 oz | No effect — flavor only | Candy-sour flavor, doubles as a lickable lube |
What's the verdict?
Great Head is the oral product I recommend because it's honest: it makes oral smoother and sweeter without numbing anyone. If you want a numbing spray, this isn't it — and I'd argue you don't want one. If you want a tingle instead of a coating, JO Blo is the other one I'd point you to.
Best for: couples new to oral, anyone who wants it to taste like dessert, people who dislike numbing products.
Buy it if: comfort and flavor are the goal.
Skip if: you want a lubricant you can use everywhere (Aqua), or you avoid sucralose.
